comfy jacket, good fit, breathable and waterproof. So close. I am 6’3 ish. About 180lbs. Columbia tall large is usually right in the money. Thank you for the tall size. Sleeve length is perfect, the sleeve girth is a bit large. Would like to see maybe an extra inch in length, but it’s closer than any other company right now.
But overall a surprisingly comfy jacket to wear.

Initial thoughts from a tall man. 6’4”, 27” arm. This review is predicated on having already owned and out-dry jacket from Columbia. I loved that jacket but at the time I was unable to find a tall size so I settled on the medium. That jacket was great, but it just didn’t have long enough sleeves And I wanted a jacket a little bit larger to wear over a layer or two in the winter, but I love that it had pit zips! I appreciate that this newer version of the jacket is more packable and lightweight. I also like the idea of the diagonal chest pockets that ride above hip belt level if you’re wearing a backpack that can be very important. I imagine the durability will probably be the same and have the same excellent protection from the water getting in.
This time I was able to find a large tall size and it fits me exactly as I had hoped. I’m 6‘4“ tall and when I need to buy a dress shirt, it’s a 15 1/2 neck and a 27 inch length sleeve. I’m slender and tall with broad shoulders so finding garments that fit me is very difficult. I really appreciate companies that sell tall sizes and this jacket is actually slightly longer than I need but fits my preferences in the rain. The drop him in the back is also an excellent feature, and I’ve always liked how the hoods are constructed.
The only criticism I have is that I think the pit zips may be a superior way for venting the garment in extreme wet conditions when it’s also warm. The out dry fabric is amazing what it does, but if it’s very humid and hot, the venting under the arms may be a really superior option. Columbian general makes excellent quality items in a budget price range but no offense you guys are not good at selling your products. Please spend more time explaining why I should buy them and what the features are. Anyone that loves outdoor gear wants to know as much as possible! For instance, the pockets on the front. The fabric that they used inside, the pockets is smooth and it says that they are used for venting, but I haven’t been able to tell yet how effective they are doing that. Because that in an amazing feature, because if you are hiking, you often are closing off some of the venting as your arms are by your sides when it comes to pit zips. Long diagonal chest pockets could allow some heat to escape even when you’re wearing a backpack and walking forward , but personally, I have an experienced how effective. The description of this garment on the website doesn’t point out that the pockets are positioned above the hip belt level. It’s an excellent feature, but not explained why the pockets have that orientation. Also, I like that one of the side pockets has also an interior pocket that zips so it’s a great place to keep something that you don’t want to slide around or get caught in the bottom of the pocket, and that small zipper pocket is where the jacket goes if you pack it away. It also could be very helpful to get people excited about this jacket if information on the hydrostatic head and MVTR numbers. I think this jacket is really the best option in the budget space in the entire market, especially from someone who is tall and the best option comparing it to Gore-Tex shake dry. People that love outdoor gear are willing to spend a lot of money if you give them a lot of information!
The only reason why I’m not giving the jacket five stars is that I haven’t been able to test it long-term and in any kind of really serious downpour.
